1 pie crust (homemade or premade, no judging)
5 large apples (cored, peeled, and sliced into 1/4-inch slices)
1 tablespoon lemon juice (or vinegar)
1/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 and 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 cup white sugar (or brown sugar, lightly packed)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Crumb Topping
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup flour
1/3 cup unsalted butter (melted and slightly cooled)
To make the pie:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

1/3 cup unsalted butter (melted and slightly cooled)
To make the pie:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
In a large bowl using a rubber spatula or wooden spoon, stir the apples, lemon juice, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar, and vanilla extract together until thoroughly combined. Set filling aside.
Roll out the pie dough onto a round pie dish. Tuck it in with your fingers, making sure it is smooth. Flute the edges.

Spoon the apple filling into the crust.
To make the crumb topping:
Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, flour, and butter in a medium bowl. Mix until resembles thick crumbs. Sprinkle mixture on top of pie.
Place the pie onto a large baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes. Keeping the pie in the oven, turn the temperature down to 375 degrees and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes. After the first 20 minutes of bake time, place a pie crust shield (or foil strips) on top of the edges of the pie to prevent them from browning too quickly.
Allow the pie to cool before serving.
